Embutidos de Mallorca invests in renewable energy, underlining its environmental commitment

The firm will cover nearly half its electricity requirements with renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint

As part of its plan to improve efficiency and energy transition, Embutidos de Mallorca has finalised the first stage in installing solar panels for self-consumption on the roof of its plant in Consell. The facility will cover around half its electricity needs with renewable energy, contributing to a major reduction in the firm’s carbon footprint.

The project was designed and installed by the Majorcan firm Eléctrica Puigcercós and comprises 154 solar panels, each with 330 W of power for a total maximum power of 50 KW. This translates into annual production of around 80 MWh.

According to the firm, ‘the location and structure of our production plant in a single unit with a 2,000 m2 roof make it ideal for this type of installation. In addition, there will be room leftover to add more panels in the future for us to become 100% energy self-sufficient.’

Founded in 1945, and celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, Embutidos de Mallorca produces and markets a wide range of Sobrasada de Mallorca products, as well as other traditional sausages under its collection of brands: Crisol, Soler, La Ermita, La Cría and El Molinar.
